Retrospective evaluation of restorations placed with universal bonding agents

| dc.description.abstract | The aim of this retrospective study is to evaluate the 12-month clinical performance of the class II restorations placed in patients who applied to the clinic of the Department of Restorative Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, Selçuk University using five different universal adhesive systems. In this study, patients between the ages of 18-25 who had class II caries and whose tooth/teeth were restored using one of the universal adhesive systems used routinely in the clinic of Department of Restorative Dentistry were selected from patient tracking system/ hospital information management system. The performed class II restorations were determined by reviewing the documented bitewing radiographs in the hospital information management system. These restorations were previously performed using one of these universal adhesive systems: (G-Premio BOND (GC Corporation, Tokyo, Japan) + G-aenial anterior composite, Tetric N-Bond Universal (Ivoclar, Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein) + Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill composite, Clearfil universal bond (Kuraray Noritake, Okayama, Japan) + clearfil photo posterior, All-Bond Universal (Bisco, USA) + AELITE All-Purpose Body (Bisco, USA), and Prime&Bond Universal (DENTSPLY, Sirona) + Ceram.X ShpereTEC one (Dentsply, Sirona). Patients were divided into five groups according to the universal adhesive used. A total of 108 patients and 185 restorations, which were placed with these materials by doctoral students, were included in the study. Restorations were evaluated in the 6th and 12th months by a single experienced operator according to the modified USPHS criteria. Restorations were scored clinically in regards to retention, color matching, marginal discoloration, marginal adaptation, secondary caries, surface structure, anatomical form, and postoperative sensitivity. To identify the existence of secondary caries, bitewing radiographs were taken at the follow-up appointments. Chi-square test (p <0.05) was used for statistical analysis of the difference between the groups. Cochran Q test (p <0.05) was used for the significance of the difference between time-dependent changes in each group. There was no statistically significant difference between restoration groups for all modified USPHS criteria (p> 0.05). The time-dependent changes in each group were not significant in terms of any criteria (p> 0.05). It has been concluded that the 12-month clinical performance of the five tested universal adhesives is almost similar and have excellent clinical behavior over evaluation time. | dc.description.abstract | Bu çalışmanın amacı Selçuk Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği fakültesi kliniğinde tedavi gören rutin hastalarda; 5 farklı üniversal bonding sistem kullanarak yapılan sınıf II restorasyonların 12 aylık klinik performanslarının retrospektif olarak değerlendirilmesidir. Bu çalışma için Restoratif Diş Tedavisi bölümüne başvuran 18-25 yaş arası hastalar arasından, sınıf II çürüğü nedeniyle aşağıda adı geçen ve kliniklerde rutin olarak kullanılan üniversal adeziv sistemlerden biriyle diş/dişleri restore edilen hastalar seçildi. Hastada yapılan restorasyonların aproksimal çürükler sebebiyle olduğu S.Ü Dişhekimliği Fakültesi hasta takip sisteminde kayıtlı bitewing radyograflar kullanılarak tespit edildi. Hastada hangi adeziv sistemin kullanıldığı kayıtlardan tespit edilerek gruplama yapıldı. Doktora öğrencileri tarafından bu materyaller ile dolgusu yapılan toplamda 108 hasta ve 185 adet restorasyon çalışmaya dahil edildi. Restorasyonlar yapılış tarihinden itibaren 6. ve 12. aylarda tek bir hekim tarafından modifiye USPHS kriterlerine göre değerlendirildi. Restorasyonlar; retansiyon, renk uyumu, kenar renklenmesi, kenar uyumu, sekonder çürük, yüzey yapısı, anatomik form, postoperatif hassasiyet açısından klinik olarak değerlendirilip skorlandı. Hastalardan bütün kontrol poriyotlarında sekonder çürük tespit etmek için bitewing takip radyografları çekildi. Gruplar arasındaki farkın istatiksel analizi için ki-kare testi (p<0.05) kullanıldı. Her grubun kendi içinde zamana bağlı değişimi arasındaki farkın anlamlılığı için Cochran Q testi (p<0.05) kullanıldı. Tüm modifiye USPHS kriterleri için restorasyon grupları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark bulunmadı (p>0.05). Her grubun kendi içinde zamana bağlı değişimleri hiçbir kriter açısından anlamlı bulunmadı (p>0.05). Bu çalışmada kullanılan adeziv materyallerin 12 aylık klinik performanslarının benzer ve klinik olarak mükemmel olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
