This research aims to determine the effects of taping on strength performance of elite taekwondo players. A total of 16 taekwondo players (7 women and 9 men) from national taekwondo team were involved in this research. The average age of the subjects was 24.33 years, height was 177.67 cm, and weight was 70.75 kg. They were chosen from the players who hadn?t a serious lower extremity injury within 6 months. Subjects? dominant and nondominant legs ankle joints were taped like basketwave. Isokinetic parameters of the subjects? ankle joints were measured with Cybex NORM isokinetic dinamometer. The movement shape of the dominant ankle joint for the isokinetic measurements were plantar flexion and dorsi flexion. The measurements were applied two times; one with the ankle joint taped and one with the ankle joint untaped. In isokinetic measurement, 5 repetations at 60°/sec and 15 repetations at 180°/sec plantar-dorsi flexion were performed and peak torques, total work and average power were calculated. In statistical analyses of the data, SPSS for Windows 11.0 packet program was used. Paired-Samples T-Test was performed in the pre and post test comparisons. The results were evaluated in 0.05 precision. Peak torque values found with dorsi flexion at 60 o/sec speed from the dominant leg; 23.83±4.57 Nm untaped and 23.42±5.09 Nm taped, peak torque values found with dorsi flexion at 180 o/sec speed; 9.25±2.18 Nm untaped and 10.25±2.83 Nm taped. Peak torque values found with plantar flexion at 60 o/sec speed; 80.83±25.12 Nm untaped and 75.75±18.01 Nm untaped, peak torque values found with plantar flexion at 180 o/sec speed; 33.67±8.80 Nm untaped and 32.75±12.93 Nm taped. Peak torque values found with dorsi flexion at 60 o/sec speed from the nondominant leg; 28.75±5.26 Nm untaped and 27.42±5.16 Nm taped, peak torque values read with dorsi flexion at 180 o/sec speed; 12.50±3.15 Nm untaped and 12.25±2.99 Nm taped. Peak torque values found with plantar flexion at 60 o/sec speed; 86.58±16.42 Nm untaped and 89.33±15.63 Nm taped, peak torque values read with plantar flexion at 180 o/sec speed; 31.25±7.65 Nm untaped and 28.92±9.11 Nm taped. When the results are compared, the average peak torque values found from the taped and untaped dominant legs was; dorsi flexion at 60 o/sec speed (t=0.435, P=0.672), dorsi flexion at 180 o/sec speed (t=-1.354, P=0.203), plantar flexion at 60 o/sec speed (t=1.669, P=0.123) and plantar flexion at 180 o/sec speed (t=0.445, P=0.665) and no significant difference was found (P>0.05). In nondominant legs the average values was; dorsi flexion at 60 o/sec speed (t=0.435, P=0.672), dorsi flexion at 180 o/sec speed (t=-1.354, P=0.203), plantar flexion at 60 o/sec speed (t=1.669, P=0.123) and plantar flexion at 180 o/sec speed (t=0.445, P=0.665) and no significant difference was found (P>0.05). As a result, taping ankle doesn?t affect the taekwondo players? plantar flexion and dorsi flexion ankle strength performance measured isokineticaly in negative way.
