Özet
İnsanlık tarihinin en eski ve en temel kültürel bağlayıcı unsurlarından biri olan çeviri faaliyetleri, farklı toplumları ve kültürleri buluşturma noktasında önemli bir rol oynamıştır. Kültürel etkileşimin en güçlü araçlarından biri olan edebiyat çevirisi ise bu işlemin ana unsurlarındandır. Bu çalışma, Türk edebiyatında önemli bir yeri olan Kürk Mantolu Madonna adlı romanın Arapçaya yapılan dört faklı çevirisindeki kültürel unsurların, İngiliz çeviribilimci Peter Newmark'ın çeviri stratejileri çerçevesinde incelenmesini amaçlamaktadır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda, üç bölümden oluşan çalışmanın birinci bölümünde kuramsal bir çerçeve sunulmuş ve Peter Newmark'ın stratejileri ele alınmıştır. İkinci bölümde, Kürk Mantolu Madonna romanı ve yazarı hakkında genel bilgilere yer verilmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde ise 50 kültürel unsur örnek olarak seçilerek çevirmenler tarafından hedef dile nasıl aktarıldığı analiz edilmiştir. Çevirmenlerin kullandığı stratejiler karşılaştırmalı olarak değerlendirilmiş ve bu unsurların hedef dile ne ölçüde aktarıldığı incelenmiştir.
Translation, one of the oldest and most fundamental cultural binding elements of human history, has played an important role in bringing different societies and cultures together. Literary translation, one of the most powerful tools of cultural interaction, is one of the main elements of this process. This study aims to analyze the cultural elements in four different translations of the novel The Madonna with the Fur Coat, which has an important place in Turkish literature, within the framework of the translation strategies of British translation scholar Peter Newmark. In line with this purpose, the first part of the study, which consists of three parts, presents a theoretical framework and discusses Peter Newmark's strategies. In the second part, general information about the novel The Madonna with the Fur Coat and its author is given. In the third part, 50 cultural elements were selected as examples and analyzed how they were transferred into the target language by translators. The strategies used by the translators were evaluated comparatively and the extent to which these elements were transferred to the target language was analyzed.
