Özet
Amaç: Yabani ve evcil kuşları etkileyen üç ana Cryptosporidium türü vardır bunlar; Cryptosporidium baileyi, Cryptosporidium galli ve Cryptosporidium meleagridis’dir. Bu çalışmada Van ilinde serbest yaşayan yabani kuşlarda Cryptosporidiosis’in yaygınlığının belirlenmesi planlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Dışkı örnekleri 69 martı (Larus michahellis), 32 güvercin (Columba livia), 10 ördek (Anas spp.), 10 Beç tavuğu (Numida meleagris), 3 Bayağı puhu (Bubo bubo), 1 Kaya kartalı (Aquila chrysaetos) ve 2 Kızıl şahin (Buteo rufinus) olmak üzere toplam 127 yabani kuştan toplandı. Dışkı örneklerine önce formol etil asetat tekniği uygulandı, sonra sediment modifiye asit fast yöntemi ile boyanarak mikroskopta incelendi. Bulgular: Muayene edilen 127 dışkı örneğinin 37’sinde (%29) Cryptosporidium spp. ookistlerine rastlandı. Öneri: Bu çalışma Van’da (Türkiye) yabani kuşlarda cryptosporidiosisin araştırıldığı ilk çalışmadır.
Aim: In wild and domestic birds, cryptosporidiosis is often associated with infections by Cryptosporidium galli, Cryptosporidium baileyi and Cryptosporidium meleagridis. A study was conducted to elucidate the prevalence of Cryptosporidium oocysts in free-living wild birds in Van, Turkey. Materials and Methods: Faecal samples were collected from 127 birds, with the following proportions of individuals: 69 Laridae (Larus michahellis), 32 Columbidae (Columba livia), 10 Anatidae (Anas spp.), 10 Numididae (Numida meleagris), 3 Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo), 1 Golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) and 2 Accipitridae. Faecal samples were examined using the formol-ether concentration technique with modified acid-fast stain using light microscopy. Results: Among the 127 fecal samples from wild birds, 37 (29%) were positive for the presence of oocysts of Cryptosporidium. Conclusion: This study was the first investigation of avian Cryptosporidiosis in Van, Turkey.
