| dc.description.abstract | Several shifts related to cultural references take place during the translation process. The current article deals with the attempts the translator Denys Johnson-Davies makes to address the rich cultural references in The Wedding of Zein by the Sudanese writer Tayeb Salih. These attempts are the target of the current study. This paper focuses on how theories of translation attempt to explain the rationale behind the translator‘s decisions and actions, particularly when dealing with culture-specific references. This article demonstrates that the target reader (TR) is the central focus of Johnson-Davies‘ approach to translating the source text (ST). The paper argues that translators do not follow one single approach when rendering a text, but instead employ a plethora of techniques to help the reader digest the literature. | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | Çeviri sürecinde kültürel referanslarla ilgili çeşitli değişimler yaşanmaktadır. Bu makale, çevirmen Denys Johnson-Davies'in Sudanlı yazar Tayeb Salih tarafından yazılmış "Zein'in Düğünü" adlı eserdeki zengin kültürel referansları aktarmak için gösterdiği çabaları ele almaktadır. Çevirmenin gösterdiği çabalar mevcut çalışmanın hedefidir. Bu makalenin odaklandığı nokta, çeviri kuramlarının, özellikle kültüre özgü referansların aktarımında çevirmenin kararlarının ve eylemlerinin ardındaki mantığı nasıl açıklamaya çalıştığıdır. Makale, Johnson-Davies'in kaynak metnin (ST) tercümesinde hedef okuyucunun (TR) merkez olduğunu göstermektedir.
