| dc.description.abstract | In this thesis Hughes' three short stories Snow, The Harvesting and The Rain Horse are analysed in terms of style. Psychic dissolution of the characters and their withdrawal from nature and their inner world are examined through his usage of language. The choice of words, sentence structure, punctuation, tone and rhythm are all analysed in detail to prove his style and achievement. The detailed study of these short stories show vividly the intention of nature and the characters' desperate situations with their neurotic behaviour. It is typical that the heroes of the three short stories Snow, The Harvesting and The Rain Horse stand as the only major characters. The heroes of The Harvesting and The Rain Horse fail in their struggle because they do not have any intention to face their inner world. Only the hero of Snow achieves to obtain the harmony with himself and in nature through Oriental philosophy. It emphasizes that one must open his senses to new perceptions and reach harmony and spiritual release in his life. | en_US |
