Vascular anomalies and the incidence, determinated during cardiac catheterization in our patients with congenital heart diseases

dc.description.abstractObjective: To determine the incidence of arterial and venous anomalies detected during the cardiac catheterization in the patients with congenital heart diseases diagnosed with echocardiography. Material and Methods: Angiography images and reports of 826 patients who were diagnosed as congenital heart diseases and underwent cardiac catheterization due to various reasons between January 1993-January 2010 were evaluated retrospectively. The assessment is controlled by two professional pediatric cardiologic. Results: 671 patients were diagnosed as acyanotic and 155 were cyanotic congenital heart diseases. The mean age was 4.8 ± 4.4 years in all patients. Vascular anomalies were most common detected in the patients with cyanotic congenital heart diseases. Persistent left superior vein cava opening to right ventricle was the common vascular anomaly in the acyanotic group while coroner artery anomaly in cyanotic group. Persistent left superior vein cava opening to left ventricle has larger ratio in cyanotic group. Coronary artery anomaly is most common detected in the patients with Fallot tetrology. Partial pulmonary venous return anomaly is most common detected in the cases with high venozum atrial septal defect. Totally 36 patients were Down syndrome, 2 of them were cyanotic and 16 had vascular anomalies. Persistent left superior vein cava opening to right ventricle is the most common vascular anomaly in the cases with Down syndrome. Conclusion: In the patients with congenital heart diseases especially in the cyanotic cases and the patients with Down syndrome; during the cardiac catheterization, it must be careful about the vascular pathologies that will be a problem in the future during the probable cardiac surgery.
