Effect of L-thyroxine induced hyperthyroidism on lipid peroxidation in testis and kidney tissues of rats

dc.description.abstractThe present study was conducted to determine lipid peroxidation caused by hyperthyroidism stimulated by 3-weeks L-thyroxin in testis and kidney tissues of rats. Experimental animals were divided into control group 2, sham - hyperthyroidism group; 3, hyperthyroidism group. Malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) levels were determined in testis and kidney tissues. MDA levels in the testis and kidney were significantly higher in the hyperthyroidism group than in control and sham hyperthyroidism groups (P < 0.001). GSH levels in testis and kidney were also higher in the hyperthyroidism group than those control and sham-hyperthyroidism groups (P < 0.001). The results of the present study demonstrate that the increase is more evident in testis tissue than kidney tissue.en_US
