Özet
Bu çalışma, sömürge sonrası/postkolonyal kuramdan hareketle sinema yoluyla
kültürel emperyalizme odaklanmakta; Doğu Afrika sineması ve kültür emperyalizmi
arasındaki yakın ilişkileri vurgulamayı amaçlamaktadır. Postkolonyalizmin kültürel
faktörlerini vurgulamak amacıyla kültür, kültürel emperyalizm, sömürgecilik ve
postkolonyal teoriyle ilgili diğer kavramlar tek tek tartışılmaktadır. Daha sonra Doğu
Afrikalı sinemacılar tarafından üretilen filmler sömürge sonrası teoride öne sürülen
kültürel faktörlerle birlikte analiz edilmektedir. Son olarak çalışma, etnik kültürel
farklılıklar, ırksal kimlik ve Uganda ve Kenya sinemasında temsil politikaları gibi bazı
tartışmalar çerçevesinde kültürel emperyalizmin sinemadaki etkisini açığa çıkarmaya
çalışmaktadır. Çalışmada Uganda sinemasından Dream America “Amerika Rüyası”
(Paresh Gondaliya & Omar Hussein, 2016), The Girl in the Yellow Jumper “Sarı
Kapüşonlu Kız” (Loukman Ali, 2020) ve Kenya sinemasından Something Necessary
“İhtiyaç” (Judy Kibinge, 2013), Uradi “Plan” (Kange’the Mungai, 2020) filmleri
örnek olarak seçilmiştir.
This study focuses on cultural imperialism through cinema in the era of modern entertainment culture using post-colonial theories and practices; It aims to highlight the close relations between East African cinema and cultural imperialism. In order to emphasize the cultural factors of postcolonialism, culture, cultural imperialism, colonialism and other concepts related to Postcolonial theory are discussed one by one. Later, the films produced by East African filmmakers are analyzed together with the cultural factors in their post-colonial theories. Finally, the study tries to reveal the impact of cultural imperialism in cinema within the framework of some debates such as ethnic cultural differences, racial identity and representation policies in Uganda and Kenya cinema. In the study, Dream America (Paresh Gondaliya & Omar Hussein, 2016), The Girl in the Yellow Jumper (Loukman Ali, 2020) from Ugandan cinema and Something Necessary (Judy Kibinge, 2013), Uradi (Kange'the Mungai 2020) from Kenyan cinema were chosen as examples.
