This study was carried out in the greenhouse of Eskişehir Forest Nursey, to determine the effect of potassium treatments on nutrition and growth of black locust and black pine seedlings, grown in nursery conditions, as well as to acquire seedlings with better-developed root and shoot compartment. The experiment was established in accordance with to the randomized parcels design, with widely used species in afforestation in Turkey, black locust (from Eskişehir origin) and black pine (from Afyonkarahisar-Ahırdağı origin), with sowing the seeds in perlite-filled pots in 2018. Hoagland solutions with concentrations of 0-23-35-47-100- and 150 ppm potassium (K) were given to the seedlings throughout the vegetation period after the seedling emergence. Seedling height, root-collar diameter, length of main and lateral roots, number of lateral roots, and oven-dried weight of the seedlings were measured, and nutrient concentrations of the seedlings were analyzed. Study results showed that treatments affected on seedling height, root-collar diameter, length of the main and lateral roots, number of the lateral roots, and oven-dried weight of the seedlings, significantly, in black locust. As to black pine seedlings, differences in seedling height, root-collar diameter, and the number of lateral roots were found to be significant among the treatments. The best growth was achieved by 100 ppm K treatment in black locust. In black pine, 23 ppm K treatment increased the seedling height and root-collar diameter, while 100 ppm K treatment resulted in higher number of lateral roots compared to the other treatments.
