Özet
Müslümanlar’ın 711’de İber Yarımadasına ayak basmasıyla 1492’de Gırnata’nn düşüşü
arasındaki süreçte bölge yüzde yüz olmasa da İslamlaştı. Zorlama olmadan yerli halk İslam’a
The Iberian Peninsula was Islamized in large scale if not hundred percent, starting with Muslims’ arrival to the region in 711, until the fall of Granada in 1942. The native community converted to Islam and organized their customs and traditions according to their new conquerors. This cultural transition took long years. However, with the support of the church to “reconquista” , what Spanish named the re-conquest, it turned into a bloody combat while Muslims and Jews were asked to convert to Christianity or leave the country without any tolerance. Those people who stayed and declared conversion to Christianity but in fact maintained their Muslim practices and conveyed their religion on the next generation were named Morisco by the Spanish. Moriscos tried to keep themselves discreet for centuries. Those that exposed were punished brutally. Despite all those years passed by, Moriscos still exist in Spain. In this study, Moriscos’ history is assessed in socio-cultural and religious aspects.
