engelli annelerin deneyimlerinde toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri belirleyici olmaktadır. Politika ve hizmetler
aracılığıyla toplumsal cinsiyet rollerinin engelli annelerin deneyimleri üzerindeki yargılayıcı,
zorlaştırıcı, damgalayıcı etkisinin ortadan kaldırılabileceği düşünülmektedir.
In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the motherhood experiences of women with disabilities from a gender perspective. Phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research designs, was used in the research. The subjects of the research are 20 disabled mothers with different types of disabilities. In-depth interviews were conducted with disabled mothers using a semi-structured interview form. The data obtained after the interview were analyzed with the MAXQDA 20 program. As a result of the analysis, 6 main themes were reached. These themes are “Experiences of Disabled Women in the Marriage Process”, “Experiences of Disabled Mothers in Pregnancy, Birth and Primary Care Process”, “Experiences of Disabled Mothers in the Growth Process of their Child”, “Experiences of Disabled Mothers with their Spouses in the Motherhood Process”, “The Case of Disabled Motherhood” and Suggestions of Disabled Mothers”. According to the research findings, mothers with disabilities do not allow their disabilities to affect the child's life negatively, they place the best interests of the child above all else and try to increase their children's awareness. However, society thinks that the disabled mother cannot take care of her child, thinks that the deficiencies about the child stem from the mother's disability, sees the child as the mother's caregiver, asks the disabled mother strange questions about her motherhood, blames and judges the disabled mother, and complicates the motherhood process of the disabled mother. Disabled mothers are individuals with high awareness and try to protect their motherhood experiences from the negative effects of gender roles. As a result, mothers with disabilities construct their experiences with their spouses and children regardless of gender roles. However, when they come into contact with the society, gender roles are decisive in the experiences of mothers with disabilities. It is thought that the judgmental, complicating and stigmatizing effect of gender roles on the experiences of mothers with disabilities can be eliminated through policies and services.
