Özet
Gerek beslendiği kültürel kaynaklar gerekse Batı ile diyalogu bakımından Mısır kültür ve edebiyatı diğer arap kültür ve edebiyatlarında ayrı bir yere sahiptir. Napolyon'un Mısır'ı işgaliyle başlayan batılılaşma ve batı kültüründen etkilenme sonucu Mısır sanat, kültür ve edebiyatında önemli gelişmeler söz konusu olmuştur. önceleri batı romanından çevirilerle başlayan roman serüveni, Muhammed Huseyn Heykel'in Zeyneb adlı romanıyla bir noktaya ulaşmıştır. ancak esas ulusal ve kendine özgün roman anlayışı Necip Mahfuz'la zirveye ulaşmıştır. ancak esas ulusal ve kendine özgün roman anlayışı Necip Mahfuz'la zirveye ulaşmıştır. 1988 yılında kendisine Nobel Edebiyat Ödülü verilen, Modern Mısır romanında önemli bir yere sahip Necip Mahfuz, birbirinden değerli kaleme aldığı romanlarıyla özelde Mısır edebiyatına genelde dünya edebiyatına büyük katkıda bulunmuştur. ele aldığı pek çok konu arasında kadın figürü önemli yer tutar. Özellikle 1952 Mısır ihtilali öncesi toplumunda kadının durumuna ışık tutan ve kuşaklar arası değişimi ele alan es-Sulasiyye adlı eseri çok önem arzeder. Mahfuz, romanında bazen bir eş, bir anne, bir sevgili veya bir çocuk olarak toplumun değişik kesimlerinden pekçok kadın karakterini ele almıştır. bu eserlerde işlenen konularda kadının o gün hangi şartlarda yaşadığını, statüsünü ve erkeklerin onlara bakış açısıını görerek; kendi toplumumuzla da kıyaslama şansını bulmaktayız.
The Egyptian culture and literature are different from other Arab cultures and literatures by virtue of both the cultural sources that it derives from and its dialogue with the West. As a result of the westernization process and going under the influence of the West, which began with Napoleon?s invasion of Egypt, sinificant developments took place in the Egyptian art, culture and literature. The story of the novel in Egypt, whicvh began with translations from western novels, reached a certain point with Muhammed Huseyn Heykel?s novel entitled Zeyneb. However, a real national and authentic perception of the novel was achieved with the novels of Nagiub Mahfouz. Enjoying a significant place in the Modern Egyptian novel and having been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1988, Nagiub Mahfouz contributed extensively both to the Egyptian literature and the world literature with the precious novels that he penned. Among the many topics that he dealt with in his novels, the woman figure has a significant place. In particular, his novel el-Sulasiyye (the trilogy), which shed light on the state of women in Egypt prior to the Egyption Revolution of 1952, is very important. Mahfouz introduced various woman characters in his novels from different walks of life as a wife, a mother, a lover or a child. We see the conditions women lived in, their status and the way men viewed them in the themes of these novels and we obtain an opportunity to compare with the situation in our society.
