Abstract
Geological, petrographical and geochemical properties of the volcanic rocks, which are located 40 kms southwest of Konya, are investigated in this study. The oldest formation in the area is Kızılören formation, which consists of dolomites and dolomitic limestone of Late Triassic-Early Jurassic age. The formation shows transition laterally and vertically to Lorasdağı formation including continental shelf limestone of Jurassic-Cretaceous age. All these units were overlied unconformbly by late Miocene-Early Pliocene aged Erenler-Alacadagi volcanics. Topraklı formation, of Late Miocene-Quaternary age, overlies the older Units unconformably. The alluviums are the youngest units in the area. The volcanics were mapped as Kızılören ignimbirite, tuf-agglomerate, dacite, andesite, two-pyroxene andesite, trachyandesite and Erenkaya ignimbirite. The volcanic rocks contain mainly plagioclase, hornblende, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, quartz, sanidine, accessory opaque and apatite mineral . Petrographic and geochemical data of the Erenler-Alacadağ volcanics in the study area, indicate that they are andesite-dacite in composition with subalkaline character. They were suggested to be derived from a continental crust, and product of an old subduction-related volcanism.
