dc.description.abstract | The present research was conducted in order to explore thinking styles of physical education teachers and to determine whether or not their thinking styles differed according to sex, age and teaching-rank (primary school-secondary school) variables. The survey method was used in the research. The sample of the research was made up of a total of 131 physical education teachers who worked at primary schools (n = 83) and secondary schools (n = 48) that belonged to National Education Ministry in Karatay, Meram and Selcuklu Counties of Konya Province during the 2009-2010 educational year. Thinking Styles Inventory -developed by Sternberg and Wagner and adapted into Turkish by Bulus - was used as the data collection tool. t test was used for the comparison of the paired sets and one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for three sets or more. Results were considered significant at p < 0.05. As a result of the research, it was determined that the most preferred thinking styles of physical education teacher was "legislative" (<(X)over bar> = 28.08) while the least preferred one was "conservative" ((X) over bar = 20.38). It was found out that "oligarchic" thinking styles of teachers differed significantly in terms of sex variable and their "conservative" thinking styles differed significantly in terms of teaching-rank (primary school-secondary school) variable (p < 0.05). As for other thinking styles, it was noted that they did not differ significantly in terms of sex and teaching-rank (p > 0.05). Another result was that thinking styles of teachers did not differ considerably in terms of age variable (p > 0.05), either. | en_US |
