Ocular inflammation is a serious and frequently encountered problem in veterinary ophthalmology. Locally acting factors primarily secretory IgA antibodies and cell –mediated immunity are the primary determitants and confering conjunctival resistance to infection. Matched serum, and tear samples were taken from 17 dogs, (6 normal dogs and 11 dogs with keratoconjunctivitis). Clinical signs of conjunctival diseases are show that ocular discharge, chemosis, hyperemia, hemorrhage, emphysema, follicule formation and abnormal swelling. The control dogs used were of unselected breed and sex of both with non-immunemediated orthopaedic disorders, but no history of ocular or systemic disease. All samples measured by nephelometeric system for tear and serum sIgA and IgE levels. There were no significant differences in the level of sIgA and IgE normal and keratoconjunctivitis tear and serum samples. As a conclusion, this study demonstrated that determination of sIgA and IgE levels in tears are of sufficient interest to warrant further research into their biological significance and potential for assessing keratoconjunctivitis severity and progression.
