Özet
Aydınlanma felsefesinin en önemli ve tartışmalı sonuçlarından olan modern bilim ve teknoloji, resimden sinemaya sanatın da on sekizinci yüzyıldan bu yana merkezindeki temalardan olmuştur. Sanayileşmenin tüm sonuçlarıyla ortada olduğu on dokuzuncu yüzyıl, bilim ve teknolojinin sorgulanmaya başladığı yüzyıldır. Bilim ve teknolojinin ürkütücü sonuçları üzerine bir çalışma olan Mary Shelley’nin Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus adlı romanı pek çok kez filme çekilmiştir. Bugün film değilse de, performans sanatı aracılığıyla Frankenstein yine gündemdedir ve bilim ve teknoloji Fransız performans sanatçısı Orlan’ın performansları aracılığıyla keskin bir eleştiriye tabi tutulmaktadır.
Modern science and technology, which stemm from Enlightenment philosophy, are two of the central themes in art from painting to cinema since the eighteenth century. They and their results began to be questioned in the nineteenth century which witnessed the all results of industrialization. Author Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus is the first critical text on the horrifying outcomes of science and technology. Today, Frankenstein theme is still in art agenda and science and high technology are still being questioned through Frankenstein concept by French performance artist Orlan.
