Özet

With the growing population size and number of vehicles, traffic congestion is increasing, particularly in urban areas. Adequate junction management and control are necessary to prevent traffic accidents and jams and to provide optimal traffic flow. In this study, 103 inner city junction points in Konya province in Turkey have been evaluated in terms of their structural data, such as numerical data, intervals and related distances. The aim of the study is to eliminate traffic jams at junctions and to reduce the risk of accidents by regulating components of high-risk junctions in urban areas. Some main sources of traffic congestion have been formularised and termed ` junction risk factors' in long-term experiments. The appropriateness of the model was then compared and tested by kernel density estimation and Getis-Ord Gi statistical methods. The superiority of the new model is that the variables of the models are independent and do not affect each other. As a result, besides numerical suggestions, probable maps have been produced for the purpose of future route/ junction planning using geographic information systems.
