Abstract
Osmanlı Devletindeki iktisadî ve malî koşulların XVI. yüzyılın sonlarına doğru hızla bozulduğu, istikrar ve genişlemenin yerini durgunluk ve bunalımların aldığı iktisat tarihçileri arasında kabul edilen genel bir görüştür. Ekonomik istikrarsızlığın temelinde milletler arası kıymetli maden hareketleri, devletin yaptığı büyük harcamalar, ticarî hareketlerin hacim yönünde olumsuz değişiklikleri ve nüfus artışları gibi birçok sorunlar yatmaktadır. Bütün bu biriken sorunlar sebebiyle devlet sikke tashihi yoluna giderek resmî fiyatlar ile piyasa fiyatları arasındaki farkı gidermeye çalışmıştır. Bu yüzden 1589, 1600, 1618, 1624 ve 1640 yıllarında olmak üzere, toplam 5 kez sikke tashih operasyonları yapılmıştır.
