Özet

Aim of this study is to present relationships between undergraduates' communication skill points and their negative automatic thinking frequency points in terms of some demographic variables. Sample of this study consisted of 478 undergraduates (191 females and 287 males) attending Düzce University. "Communication Skills Scale (ISS)" developed by Korkut (1996b), "Automatic Thoughts Scale" developed by Hollan and Kendall (1980) and adapted to Turkish by Şahin and Şahin (1992) and "Personal Information Form" were used in the study. According to the results of the study; it was determined that there is no significant difference between the undergraduates' communication skill points and negative automatic thinking frequency points according to their gender, their grade and place where their families lived. While undergraduates' communication skills points do not differ in terms of the department they attend, their negative automatic thinking frequency points differ in terms of their departments. That is, undergraduates attending the department of Nursing have relatively high negative automatic thinking frequency points. It was also observed that there is a medium-level, significant negative correlation between undergraduates' communication skills and their negative automatic thoughts.
