dc.description.abstractThis study deals with an elastic-plastic stress analysis on an aluminum metal-matrix composite disc under uniform temperature distribution. The composite disc is reinforced curvilinearly by steel fibers. Thermal stresses occur for the uniform temperature distribution due to the different thermal expansion coefficients in radial and circumferential directions. The magnitude of the circumferential stress component is higher than that of the radial stress component. Plastic yielding starts first at the inner surface. When the temperature is increased, plastic yielding expands also at the outer surface. The solution is performed by a numerical method. The magnitude of the residual stress component of the circumferential stresses is found to be highest at the inner surface.en_US
