The data obtained from 240 ewes and 54 rams for live weight (LW) and 12 body measurements were used. The study was conducted on 35 flocks in Kangal district of Sivas. Average live weight (LW) was 66.4 kg, shoulder height (SH) 75.9 cm, rump height (RH) 75.8 cm, body length (BL) 65.7 cm, rump width (RW) 20.4 cm, chest depth (CD) 35.0 cm, chest width (CW) 22.7 cm, chest girth (CG) 98.8 cm, head length (HL) 24.1 cm, ear length (EL) 17.6 cm, ear width (EW) 10.0 cm, front cannon bone circumference (FCBC) 9.5 cm and tail-tarsal joint distance (TTJD) 10.9 cm for ewes. The average live weight (LW) of rams was 102 kg and the body measurements of rams were higher than that of ewes with the exception of the ear length (EL) and the tail-tarsal joint distance (TTJD). The LW differences among different ages were significant both in rams and ewes. However, with exception of BL and RW, there were no significant differences in body measurements of rams in terms of ages. The phenotypic correlations between LW and body measurements were positive and significant in all traits except in TTJD. The highest phenotypic correlation (0.898) was between LW and CG As a result, when LW and body measurements of ewes and rams were evaluated in the study, it can be said that Kangal type Akkaraman sheep was the large sheep breed compared with native sheep breeds in Turkey.Öğe Determination of Optimum Slaughter Weight and Profitability of Brown Swiss Cattle in Turkey(WFL PUBL, 2010) Garip, Mustafa; Akmaz, Ali; Yılmaz, Alper; Dere, Süleyman; Çağlayan, Tamer; İnal, Şeref; İnal, FatmaThe objectives of this study are determination of optimum weight and comparison of profitability of different slaughter weights in intensively fed Brown Swiss Feeders. Animal material was a total of 30 Brown Swiss calve aging 10-12 months. Also, concentrated fattening feed was obtained from a private feed company and included in animal diets. Average daily gain was 1209.58, 1203.45, 1232.69, 1225.73 and 1193.46 g, feed conversion values 6.98, 7.64, 7.97, 8.58 and 10.07, cold carcass yields 56.96, 54.60, 56.06, 55.75 and 57.25% and finally carcass profitability per kg carcass 3.60 (1.89 (sic)), 2.98 (1.57 (sic)), 2.71(1.43 (sic)), 1.47 (0.77 (sic)) and 0.33 (0.17 (sic)) TL (Turkish Liras) for 450, 500, 550, 600 and 700 kg slaughter groups, respectively. As a result, it can be concluded that the most profitable optimum slaughter weight is about 500-550 kg for Turkish Brown Swiss Cattle. Also, 8-10 months age animals should be preferred in beef programs. We can also suggest that a 6-8 months fattening program to obtain 500-550 kg body weight will be more profitable.Öğe Farklı Kesim Ağırllklarında Akkaraman Kuzuların Besi Performansı, Kesim Ve Karkas Özellikleri(Selçuk Üniversitesi, 2002) Akmaz, Ali; Şahin, Emine HesnaÖzet: Bu araştırma Akkaraman irki kuzularının; 35, 40, 45 ve 50 kg kesim ağırlıklarında besi performansı, kesim ve karkas Özelliklerini incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Süt ve riminin artınimasına ilişkin seleksiyon çalışmalarına ven temin edilmesi ve süt koyunculuğunda damızlık seçiminde kriter alınması bakımından süt verim kontrolu önemlidir. Süt verim kontrolleri ile damızlık değeri iyi olan damızlık adaylarının belirlenebilmesi, sürüdeki düşük verimli bireylerin tespit edilerek ayıklamanın isabeti yapılabilmesi, ayrıca sürünün gerçek verim düzeylerine uygun olarak beslenebilmeleri, devamlı uygulanan kontroller sayesinde mastitisin erken teşhis ve tedavisinin yapılarak işletmenin uğrayacağı zararın en aza indirilebilmesi sağlanabilir.Öğe Kuzu Rasyonlarına Degi?şi?k Düzeylerde Katılan Sodyum Bi?karbonatın Besi? Performansına Etki?si?(Selçuk Üniversitesi, 1988 Ocak) Coşkun, Behiç; Tuncer, Şakir Doğan; Tekeş, Mehmet Ali; Akmaz, Ali; İnal, ŞerefThis study was carried out to investigate the effects of different levels of sodium bicarbonate that was added into concentrate mixtures in 0.5 and 1% on growth performance. In the experiment, 42 Akkaraman male lambs with 5.5-6 months old were used. The research works were conducted as 3 groups for the period of 56 days. The ration of the control group did not contain any sodium bicarbonate. The average of final weights of lambs in the groups were 48.08; 46.75 and 47.38 kg respectively (P<0.05). Average daily weight gain was found to be 233 g in the control group; 193 and 207 g in the other groups respectively (P<0.05). The concentrates and wheat straw fed to the lambs ad libitum. Total feed consumption for all groups were 1750; 1773 and 1817 g respectively. Total feed intake per kg weight gain were found to be 7.51; 9.19 and 8.78 kg, respectively.Öğe The wool characteristics of Turkish Merino, German Blackheaded Mutton Sheep, Hampshire Down, Lincoln Longwool, Corriedale and their F-1 and B-1 crossbreed sheeps(SCIENTIFIC TECHNICAL RESEARCH COUNCIL TURKEY, 1999) Tekin, Mehmet Emin; Kadak, Ramazan; Akmaz, Ali; Ergin, AliThis study was conducted to investigate the wool characteristics of Turkish Merino, German Blackheaded Mutton Sheep, Hampshire Down, Lincoln Longwool, Corriedale and their F-1 and B-1 crossbreed sheeps. A total of 2669 shearing records obtained from 1993 to 1996 were used in this study. The effects of genotype, age, shearing year, sex and post shearing body weight on greasy fleece weight and wool characteristics were examined wit least Squares method. The effects of all the examined factors on greasy fleece weight and staple length were significant, except sex on staple length. The effects of genotype and shearing year on fibre diamater were significant, and the effects of genotype, sex and shearing year on fibre twine were significant. The population averages of greasy fleece weight, staple length, fibre twine and fibre diamater were 3.29 kg, 9.81 cm, 8.38 units and 24.55 mu, respectively, for Merino and crossbreds. The least squares means of same characteristics for Turkish Merino were 3.29 kg, 7.90 cm, 10.24 units and 21.32 mu; and for all of crossbreed types 2.77-3.77 kg, 8.55-11.23 cm, 7.29-9.08 units and 23.90-25.72 mu respectively; and the difference between genotypes were statistically significant. The correlation between post shearing body weight and greasy fleece weight, staple length, fibre twine and fibre diamater were 0.31, 0.14, 0.12 and -0.10, respectively, in Turkish Merino crossbreeds; between greasy fleece weight and staple length, 0.31; between staple length and fibre twine -0.37; and between fibre diameter and staple length and fibre twine were 0.29 and -0.29, respectively. All these correlations were significant. As a result, both Merino's and their crossbred's wool yields and wool characteristics for industry were good quality.
