    An analytic study of communication satisfaction in the Turkish Postal Service

    Communication and job satisfaction have been one of the popular topics in business research. Communication activities directed at employees are currently considered as necessary, which are also seen as an investment that will eventually yield its return. In literature there are some evidences that favourable employees communication have effects on the increase of job satisfaction and employee performance. The appearing job satisfaction, in return, creates an increase in productivity, which contributes to the success of the organization, too. It should be considered that employee communication differs among public institutions and private organization in Turkey. It can be seen that public institutions are rather weak in their internal communication activities whereas private organizations give more importance to communicate with employees. The reason is mainly the fact that in the bureaucratic structure of Turkish public institutions. The most widely used business communication satisfaction questionnaire, the Communication Satisfaction Questionnaire (CSQ) has not been used in the postal service in Turkey. This field study of 520 postman investigated the relationship amongst perceived satisfaction with organizational communication, job satisfaction and, job performance in Turkey. This article presents a factor analytic study of CSQ in a postal service. Our research has revealed that top management does not use effective communication methods towards employees, likewise the employees are not satisfied with those communication activities.

    Approach of faculty of communication, publicity and public relations department students to Unesco Cultural Diversity Universal Agreement

    “UNESCO Convention on Cultural Diversity”, a convention (universal declaration) adopted unanimously by all member countries of the United Nations on November, 2001, and adopted and supported by the EU, as well, and binding on Turkey, among others, comes to the fore in all efforts undertaken for Turkey’s future. With this fact on mind, in this research, we first of all were analyzed the point of view and approach of faculty communication publicity and public relations department students toward Unesco based on an assumption that they would become society-shaping individuals in the future. Thereafter, we discussed their perception of the fact that cultural differences were highlighted within the framework of “Convention on Cultural Diversity”, as well as their attitude and opinion about such articles of the convention as social integration, citizenship consciousness and human rights. Apart from that, data generated as the result of research conducted with aid of survey on students were evaluated statistically using SPSS software program as applied stage of research.

    Krisenmanagement als ein bereich der öffentlichkeitsarbeit

    Öffentlichkeitsarbeit versucht in seiner Zielgruppe ein "Goodwill" zu erreichen und hat auch auf das Unternehmen-/Produktimage eine wichtige Wirkung. Je mehr und systematischer Öffetlichkeitsarbeit von Unternehmen betreibt wird, desto erfolgreicher wird das Image. Öffentlichkeitsarbeit ist zwar nicht das einzige Element, dass das Image gestaltet, aber hat schon eine wichtige Rolle dabei. Unternehmen, die ihr Image zum Erwünschten Platz steigern, können auch aus Krisen leichter herauskommen. In diesem Beitrag werden die Relationen zwischen Öffentlichkeitsarbeit, Image und Krisen vorgestellt.

    Undergraduate and graduate public relations education in Turkey: a quantitative study of dissertations contributions to public relations field (1984-2007)

    In this article, public relations education in Turkey and MA and doctoral dissertations on public relations written at Turkish universities (1984-2007) are examined in order to gain an understanding of the level of the theses within the discipline and that subjects are studied, too: Growth over the time, universities where they were written, use of language, gender, whether or not supervisors are related to public relations, and topics of MA and doctoral dissertations. Public relations MA and doctoral research in Turkey is approached respectively in terms of the total of theses examined (673). The conclusion is that their contribution to public relations’ improvement and especially theory building has been negligible. Written theses are standing out the practical or operational, and no existence any dissertations related to public relations theory.
