Özet

Calixarenes are readily amenable to chemical modification at the phenolic hydroxy groups, leading to particular, the easy accessibility of p-tert-butyl calix[4]arene has made this member of the series increasingly popular as a building block or platform for assembling more elaborate structures with ligating side arms or podands for the reception of guest species, notably alkali, alkaline earth, and some transition metal cation. For example, the tetraester is sufficiently selective for Na+ to enable its exploitation in ion-selective electrodes. This is attributable to the inner size of the ionophoric cavity composed of four OCH2C = O groups that is comparable with the ion size of Na+, and to the cone conformation that is firmly constructed on the rigid calix[4]arene platform. Until now complexation studies have been conducted with monomeric calixarenes. Polymeric calixarenes are a much more recent innovation. Shinkai, Kawaguchi, and Manabe prepared a calix[6]arene fixed to polystyrene. "Harris, Barrett, and McKervey reported on the polymerization and Na' complexation of calix[4]arene metha~ry1ate.l~ The attachment of calix[4]arene to a polymer support was recently described.
