Prevalence and Related Factors of Mood and Anxiety Disorders in a Clinical Sample of Postmenopausal Women

dc.description.abstractPURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to investigate the prevalence and related factors of mood and anxiety disorders in postmenopausal women attending a gynecological outpatient clinic. METHODS: The study sample included 269 postmenopausal women. The Structured Clinical Interview for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition was performed to determine the disorders. RESULTS: Ninety-two (34.2%) women had at least one mood or anxiety disorder. The most common specific disorder was generalized anxiety disorder (15.6%). The existence of any mood or anxiety disorder was associated with poorer economic level. CONCLUSIONS: Mood and anxiety disorders were frequently observed in postmenopausal women who were admitted to a gynecology outpatient clinic.en_US
