Özet

Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) is accompanied by a variety of complications which may develop due to an increase in oxidant stress and/or a decrease in antioxidant activities. Hemodialysis (HD) is still the most prevalent method used for the end stage renal failure throughout the world. In this study, it was aimed to research thoroughly whether an increase in lipid peroxidation occurs in hemodialysis patients with advanced CRF and to evaluate antioxidant enzyme activities. Plasma MDA which is the indicator of lipid peroxidation and plasma SOD, CAT, GSH-Px levels as well as total antioxidant status (TAS) values which are the indicators of antioxidant defense systems have been determined in CRF patients who have undergone hemodialysis treatment and in the control group. Compared to those found in the control group, MDA and SOD levels in CRF patient group have statistically increased (p<0,001), while GSH-Px and CAT values have been found to decrease (p<0,001). TAS values have been determined to increase in the control group before the hemodialysis and to decrease after the hemodialysis, which is statistically insignificant. With regard to the correlation calculation we've made, a statistically positive correlation have been found between urea and creatinine both pre- and after hemodialysis, while no statistically significance have been recorded among other parameters.
