Treatment of Corneal Hydrofluoric Acid Burns in Rabbits

dc.description.abstractFiftyfour adult male New Zealand White rabbits were used in this study. Epithelial burns of both eyes were induced by instillation of 0.05 rat of 2 % hydrofluoric (HF) acid for 60 seconds. Following this, the eyes were irrigated with 500 cc normal saline. Three different agents [Acular(R), Blephamide(R) Or the solution of Alkanna rinctoria TAUSCH (A. tinctoria) in 8 % prepared in Huile de Ricin in weight basis] were applied to the left eyes, and right eyes served as controls. After HF acid burn, one drop of Acular(R), Blephamide(R) or A. tinctoria was instilled to the left eyes 3 times a day for 2, 7 and 14 days. Right eyes were kept as controls and treated with 0.9 % normal saline 3 times a day for 2 days in all groups. Clinical and histopathological results revealed that either Blephamide(R) or A. tinctoria application was effective in the treatment of HF acid eye injuries in the rabbit, but that A. tinctoria was superior to Blephamide(R). Acular(R) treatment had no accelerating effect on the healing of corneal erosion as far as conjunctival and corneal haziness is concerned throughout the experimental procedure. There was no healing observed in the controls With saline irrigation.en_US
dc.description.abstractCinquante quatre lapins blancs mâles de Nouvelle-Zélande ont été utilisés pour étudier le traitement des lésions oculaires provoquées par l’acide fluorhydrique. Des brûlures épithéliales des deux yeux ont été induites par l'instillation de 0,05 ml de 2 % d'acide fluorhydrique pendant 60 secondes. Après ceci, les yeux ont été irrigués avec 500 ml. de soluté salé isotonique. Trois agents différents [Acular, Blephamide et la solution à 8 % de tinctoria TAUSCH (extrait soluble d’Alkanna tinctoria) préparée dans l'Huile de Ricin] ont été appliqués aux yeux gauches, alors que les yeux droits ont servi de contrôle. Après réalisation de brûlure oculaire une goutte d’extrait soluble d’Alkanna tinctoria de Blephamide et d'Acular a été instillée sur les yeux gauches 3 fois par jour pendant 2, 7 et 14 jours. Les yeux droits ont été gardés comme contrôles et traités par du soluté salé à 0,9 % 3 fois par jour pendant 2 jours dans tous les groupes. Les résultats cliniques et histopathologiques ont montré que l’application de Blephamide et d’extrait soluble d’Alkanna tinctoria etait efficace pour le traitement des lesions oculaires dues à l'acide fluorhydrique, mais l’extrait soluble d’Alkanna tinctoria était supérieur au Blephamide. Le traitement par Acular n'a eu aucun effet significatif sur l'érosion cornéenne. Il n'y a pas eu d'effet cicatrisant observé surles yeux témoins.
